Selenium - prevents retroviruses HIV, Cocksackie, Ebola replicating
Drs Beck and Levander’s observations highlighted the fact that low Se levels lead to weakened antioxidant defences, reduced immune surveillance, higher viral replication rates and thus conditions favouring viral mutation.
It is also known that Selenium prevents a number of Retroviruses i.e. HIV, Cocksackie, Ebola, Marburg and Flu viruses from replicating in the host cells.
It interferes with the reverse transcription of the viral RNA to viral DNA thus preventing virus replication.
Research shows it prevents the progression of HIV to AIDS. Professor Luc Montagnier of the Pasteur Institute (one of the discoverers of HIV) states that “Selenium was currently the most realistic hope for those infected with HIV in the world’s impoverished nations, of the slowing of the progression of HIV to AIDS until a vaccine is found”.
